It would be very effective, yes? Here's to hoping because something has been trying to creep up on us all week. The only one to be slightly affected has been myself, but yesterday Miss A started coughing and today Miss J has a fever. I am partially to blame though, we had a busy day yesterday and all the going-going probably did us in.
I hope whatever it is it's not the lovely flu that's going around. I have math homework that needs to be done. Have you ever tried to do math while sick? See, I do need a sickie torpedo. Wouldn't you buy one? I could create a mass production line and sell them by the millions! I'd even throw in a candy bar to the first 50 customers! It would be huge! Nothing like you've ever seen! Incredible! No more sickies! Woohoo!
Maybe I should wait until after we feel better....*sigh*

Who was the last person you hugged?
*My husband.

Share a beauty or grooming trick or tip with us.
*If you have a daughter like my eldest, then you're quite familiar with the struggle of brushing knots out of hair. I've tried the detangler stuff, but it doesn't work well. The one thing that helps us the most is to put in conditioner after it's washed.

What does the color yellow make you think of?
*Someone I'd rather not think about. Go figure.

Cooking with onions
One of the dinners I recently made had onions in it. I don’t cook with onions very often but this was a new recipe so I added them. You forget how long after you cook with onions, the smell sticks around. The following day we left the house and came back a few hours later and our house smelled like bad odor. I knew it was from the onions but if someone had come by, they wouldn’t have. I’d like one of those air cleaners because I can’t stand a smelly house.

Belated Movie Review
Guess what? I think watching movies has turned into my newest hobby. lol There are quite a few this week, which is why this is late, but, I hope you find something you like. If there's one you would/would not recommend, feel free to mention it too :)
"The Lake House" - I've watched this before and really liked it, so I ordered it again. It's about a woman (Sandra Bullock) and a man (Keanu Reeves), who both had lived in the same house. The catch? She's living in 2006 and talking to him, living in 2004. The movie is good, other than the swearing, and although the ending had some loopholes, it was a very enjoyable watch. Plus, it has a happy ending and those are my favorites. :)
"A Room With a View" - Ugh. I kept hearing how good this movie was, but it was terrible. I know it's based on the supposed incredible novel by E.M. Foster, but I don't recommend it at all. The beginning was slow and rather stupid IMO. Two ladies are complaining that their hotel rooms don't have a view and two men, kindly, switch rooms with them so they can. There was one part that was so appalling to me and that was when you see three gentleman go swimming in the buff. No, you don't just see their backsides, you see pretty much everything. I was totally disgusted and could care less the movie received an Oscar. :P
"Romancing the Stone" - Another ugh. I watched all of ten minutes before having to turn this off. In those ten minutes, I saw two people get killed, one person was kidnapped after first being smacked in the head with a rock from a boy's sling shot, and a lady in a wet shirt allowing you to see everything. Why anyone thought this would make a good show, I'll never know.
"Becoming Jane" - I've made it known more than once that I love Jane Austen. So when I heard about this movie, I was stoked! My favorite author and one of my favorite actress's, Anne Hathaway, were coming together. But sadly, this did not turn out the way I had hoped. First, I don't think this was the best part for Hathaway, as much as I like her. Second, the swearing and sexual references (some were even more mature than me! lol) were a huge turn off, as they always are. You also see the backside of naked men going swimming. Anyway, I find the story of Jane Austen's life interesting but more interesting to read the facts about it instead of what the movie eluded to.
"Evan Almighty" - At first, I didn't want to see this because it sounded like it was mocking the story of Noah. But a good friend said it wasn't like that, so we rented it. It actually wasn't that bad and only had a few swear words. Steve Carell plays Evan and I thought he was hilarious. We had a number of good laughs with this movie. The one thing that I didn't like was seeing Carell in the nude. (Boy, I sure know how to pick them!) He was behind a bush and you don't see anything other than his upper torso and legs, but still.
"Aeon Flux" - Add this to my terrible-movies-list. I ended up fast forwarding through most it. The storyline was about Aeon, a woman part of an underground rebellion, who is told to assassinate the city's top official. There was just too much violence for me and the skimpy attire didn't help either. I won't watch it again.
"A Wedding for Bella" - Dominic is a hardworking man who is friends with Bella, a mother-like figure to him. She becomes very ill and Dominic will do anything to see her happy. The one thing Bella wants is for her daughter, Lucca, to be married. So Dominic tries to convince Lucca to marry him so Bella will be happy before she dies. The storyline was sweet, what Dominic was trying to do, but there were too much sexuality and language for me to recommend this one.
"Devil Winds" - Peter Jensen is a tornado watcher and ends up losing his wife to one. He and his daughter have conflicts because of that tragedy but end up coming together when another big tornado is about to hit the area. I wasn't real impressed with this, but it was ok for a one time watch. I don't like movies that skip around instead of flow from scene to scene and this one did not flow. There is a intimacy scene and action, but not much else. Like I said, it's ok to watch once, but not one I will buy.
"Persuasion" (1995 version) - This is my new favorite movie and I don't recall seeing anyone naked. Woohoo! This is of course, based on Jane Austen's novel and it was so good. I watched it probably five times before returning it. The story is about Anne, a young girl who falls in love with a young sea captain. But her family persuades her to break off their engagement because of his lowly situation. Anne's father and sister drove me to want to reach through my TV screen and strangle them. People like them unnerve me to no end. lol Anyway, Anne's love comes back as a wealthy sea captain and the story continues with them deciding whether or not they still feel the same way after eight years. If you like Jane Austen, you will like this movie. There are other versions, but this is the first I've seen and it was worth it. There is some language, but the rest was clean. So hurry up and go see this and tell me what you think!
"P.S. I Love You" - I had a girl's night out and we saw this in the theater. The pros: the romance between Holly and Gerry was adorable and what he did for her after he passed away was very touching. The cons: the swearing, the naked backside of a man walking out of the shower (seriously, I couldn't believe I watched yet another movie with a naked backside!), and the adult sexual content, especially in the beginning of the movie. With that said, I would watch it again but only with my parental guardian on my DVD player activated and a remote to fast forward through a few parts. This was funnier than I imagined it would be too. Some parts we were laughing so hard there were tears in our eyes, while other parts were really sad.
"Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: A Veggie Tales Movie" - This is the first movie we took our kids too in the theater since they were babies. The girls enjoyed it and hubby and I did too. I love what the Veggie Tales creators can come up with it, they are so funny! This movie takes your three lovable veggies Larry, Mr. Lunt, and Pa Grape back in time to help save a prince and princess from their evil uncle. It was a fun family movie and we recommend it!

Needed something different
You may have noticed that I've been playing around with my blog title the past few days. The whole ducky idea was starting to wear on me so I've decided to go a different direction. I like the new title and how it fits with my URL, but the subtitle is a work in progress. It's just a blog, not rocket science, but I want something that will better define what I do here.
So, I hope you like it and the changes to come. I hate asking yet again, but if you don't mind changing the name of the link to my blog on your blog, that would be super. I promise this one will stick. I'll even throw in some ice cream and pretty confetti. Woohoo!

My lovely front door
I was just thinking recently how ironic it’s been that in every apartment we’ve lived in there has been some sort of problem with the front door. The one now has a space under it that brings in a lot of cold air. There’s probably some type of door hardware that would fix it, but we use a towel if it gets too cold. But at least the door works, so it’s not that big of deal.

Over and over and over again
I've heard about other kids going through that repetitive stage, but I had never experienced it, until now. Little Miss A is in love with the movie "Finding Nemo" and wants to watch it all day, every day. She even goes as far as to get mad when it's paused to eat lunch. I do let her watch it once a day but no more. You know you've seen a movie one too many times when you and your husband start quoting passages like, "can't hear you Peach." I like the movie and all, but it's starting to wear on me.
Adding to our ferris wheel of repetitiveness has to be the "Swing Swing" song by the All-American Rejects. Again, I like this song, but you can only listen to it so many times. We have it on CD in our car and that's the first thing the girls ask to listen to. They'd listen to it over and over again if I let them, but I'm not that nice. ;) I'm thinking we need a FHE lesson on moderation. Do you think I could convince a three and two year old to do things in moderation? lol
One thing at a time
With the purchase of his new laptop, I think my husband has it all about figured out. The only thing that has been a problem is getting his computer in sync with the printer hooked up to our desktop. I know there are KVM products that may be of help, but I really don’t know. I’m not an expert when it comes to this type of thing and I’m sure he will figure it out. I just wish I could help in some way.
It could have been worse
A few weeks ago while at church, my eldest daughter comes up to me and tells me she had some treats in her class. She’s in a new class this year and I wasn’t aware they gave out treats, so I didn’t mention her allergy. Thank goodness she didn’t have a reaction and I made sure to tell her leaders the next time I saw them. I’ve seen people wear different styles of medical jewelry telling about a condition they have but I don’t think my daughter needs one. We just try to make sure anytime she’s not with us that people know.

Is it just me?
For the first time, we went to the 3-5 year old story time at the library a few days ago. In the past we've gone to the 24 months and younger story time (Miss A is young enough for that one). With the younger class, the parents and other siblings were always welcomed. But for some reason, in the older class, no parents or other kids are allowed.
Now for a parent who loves to participate in story time with her children, I found this really strange and bothersome. Story time has always been an activity we did together and poor Miss A was so disappointed not to be able to go with her sister.
Well, I've been thinking about this and wondering why they do it. Yes, the children are older and some even school-aged. Yes, it's good for children to participate in things by themselves and interact with other children without a parent watching over them. But at the same time, it's story time for crying out loud, so what's the big deal?
Even though it happened a few days ago, I'm still bothered by this. I'm not mad or anything, it just seems silly. Is it just me or would anyone else care?

Valentine's Day love
My holiday started a bit early, just after 6am, and then I headed to school for a math test. What kind of Valentine's Day present is a test, let alone a math test? :P But it's over and the day has been a good one. The girls received some Valentine's from friends and family and we gave them two new computer games. I gave hubby Risk 2210, his favorite game, and he gave me a beautiful necklace.
I think this has been my favorite Valentine's Day. Not because I received jewelry, which was a lovely surprise, but because we didn't get all stressed about it. We enjoyed things as they came and we're all happy. It's been a good day. How was your day?

Keeps them nice and toasty
This year I bought matching boots for the girls. It’s hard to find anything matching for them where they’re in different sizes, so I was stoked when I found the boots. They are brown with little dangly puffs and are really cute. They don’t look much like the Emu
Annoying little green men
You know what, I think finding quotes of any kind are a pain in the neck. Seriously, it feels like you have to tell them your blood type and donate a body part in order to get a quote. It’s just a quote people, not a line up! Some businesses have information where you can compare their quote with other companies, but I wonder how accurate those really are. Are you one of those people who call around for auto insurance quotes and life insurance quotes? Does it frustrate you too?

In need of a vacuum?
I am. I had mentioned here that we bought a new vacuum on Black Friday, but it's not the greatest. It was cheap so what more can I expect. It does work, just not as well as you would like your vacuum too. We have to clean the filters after every use and for some reason it shoots air out the side? Anyway, what I'm saying is that I'd like a new vacuum and what would you know but over at 5 Minutes for Mom they're giving one away! It's the Orek XL Ultra and get this, it only weighs 9 pounds! You always hear how amazing Orek vacuums are so winning this would be great. :)
How do I love him, let me count the ways
I was talking to a friend and jokingly mentioned that one of the reasons I married my husband was for his technological knowledge. lol He really does know more than me. It’s funny because he can talk about something computer related and usually, I get a confused look on my face. I didn’t even know what a Cat 5 cable was until he told me. But don’t ask me to explain it to anyone because I’m sure to still get it wrong. lol
It would make a great present
On a recent trip to Wal-Mart, my husband say a bow and arrow set on the clearance aisle. He pointed it out and I wished we could have bought it. He’s always wanted one and has even taken classes to learn how to use it. With school and work though, he doesn’t have a lot of time on his hands. I think I’d like to get him a nice set as a graduation present. I’ll need to remember Dick's Sporting Goods coupons and see if there’s one I can use to get a good bow for him.

My blog and it's ads
I know that many people don't like pulling up a blog and seeing more advertisements than actual posts. My blog, as of late, has been like that and I want to say a few things about it. First and foremost, I write those posts because they bring in income for my family. Sometimes even I get sick of doing them but we need the money so I keep at it.
With that said, if you don't like the ads, I wouldn't mind a bit if you skipped over them and read my regular posts. If you have trouble distinguishing between the ads and the regular stuff, here's a few things to help you. All of my ads have a link to a website/product. In the past I've always highlighted that link but as of today, I'm changing from highlighting it, to italicizing.
Know that in some of my regular posts I have links to other websites too, whether for a fun giveaway or just something interesting to read, and these links I will leave highlighted. I hope this helps my readers. I know my blog has been far from interesting lately, but bear with me. I'm burnt out from a lot of things and I'm trying to find my way back to the good stuff. :)
You get out of it what you put into it
Just over a month ago, I mentioned that my husband was looking for a job. Well, thankfully he found one and almost a month later he still enjoys what he does. I don’t know if the company he works for gives an employee performance evaluation but it sounds like everyone really likes him and his hard work, so I don’t think he’d have too much to worry about if they did. I’m really proud of him for all the he does on a daily basis.
Crazy, annoying popups
There have been many, many times where on this blog I’ve mentioned how much I love my gift subscription to Netflix. Our whole family enjoys it and we watch movies together now more than ever. But there is one downside. If I don’t have my popup blocker on, a lot of sites I go to have a pop up for Netflix. I know they need to advertise but darn those popups! It can drive a person mad. lol

The book with a face
A friend emailed earlier today telling me she had created a profile with Facebook and was hoping I would join in too. Now, I've heard a lot of things about Facebook and how it's a great resource to find classmates and what not. But I've never wanted to do anything with it. Despite past thoughts on the topic, I decided to sign up and take a gander. I did find a good number of people from my high school and others I've met over the years, but it wasn't anything spectacular. Maybe I'm missing something? I am a newbie, so there's probably a whole bunch of things that could make it more interesting. But for now, I'll just play around with my profile.
Do you have a Facebook account? If yes, why do you like it and what do you use it for?
Take your pick
Which do you think is better, ellipticals or treadmills? I have an elliptical and it works great, but sometimes I wonder if I would get more out of a treadmill. It would be nice to be able to run on mine, but it feels weird because it’s more of a waddle-run. lol Does anyone have both and prefer one over the other? I’m just curious how they compare when it comes to a good workout. Ultimately, anything is better than nothing!

The world is changing
I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately about how the world we live in is changing. In some ways, there are good changes, but for the most part, I see a lot of bad changes. People’s lives are in a constant flux and I find that most are easily influenced. There’s not a day goes by that I don’t hear of someone who’s gone into drug rehab or another facility to get help for making bad choices. I think it’s really sad how easy it is to get caught up in all the crap and feel like you’re losing control of your life. Just the thought of that makes me work harder so as not to go in that direction, ever.

Need some shoe advice?

But you're probably wondering what this organizer has to do with shoes. Well, as part of her giveaway, we had to ask a question about a problem we were having when it came to organizing something. My problem is shoes. No, I don't have a lot (one for church, one for everyday, and sandals - yes, really, that's all I have lol) but you combine my pairs with my husband's pairs and the girl's pairs, you get a big mess.
So Tanna suggested that I first go through all the shoes and see which ones still fit and still use. I've already done this (to maintain partial sanity with the situation) but it still left me with a pile of shoes. Living in an apartment means we don't have a lot of space. So the shoes have been in a lump in the small living room closet next to the broom/dust pan, the vacuum, the mop/bucket, the laundry soap, the ironing board, some wood, and a baby swing.
So when Tanna suggested this 10 pocket shoe organizer, among other things, from Target, hubby and I loved it. This is so perfect for our little space! I'm thrilled to finally rid my shoe dilemma after all this time. Thank you so much Tanna!

I love receiving flowers
For my birthday a few weeks ago, my husband had a big bouquet of flowers sent to me. I haven’t had flowers in a long time, due to lack of income, so it was a nice surprise! I love to get flowers because they brighten my day. This last bouquet had some daisies in it and I’m finding out that I really love daisies. Purple and white roses are my favorite, but the daisies were a nice change. My husband picked up the bunch at a local floral shop but I’m going to tell him about 1800flowers.com. They have a great selection from fair trade flowers to yummy treats. There are quite a few that I’d pick out and Valentine’s Day is coming up, so it’s a perfect time to receive more flowers. :)

Bloggy love
Although I'm behind on blog awards, I want to let these people know that I haven't forgotten about them. It's so sweet that each of these individuals thought enough of me to give me an award. Thank you ladies!
Holly (Mama Pajama) also gave me these two awards, bless her heart! The second award she gave me "for staying true to my beliefs." I'd like to give the first one to Gina because I think she is Wonder Woman where she's a single mom of four and a student. The second award I want to give to Mimo, because she really is a blogger with integrity. One of the many things I admire about her.
Natalie gave me this Someone Thinks I'm a Firefly Award because I have two daughters. This award comes from Scrappy and Happy in Ohio, so be sure to check out her blog too. I want to give this award to Emily because I think her oldest, Makena, is such a cutie!
Gina gave me this Biggest Heart Award "for being one of the sweetest people I know. You are always concerned about me, asking me about my day. I don't know how you keep that heart of yours inside! You are awesome!" Thanks Gina, I think you're pretty awesome too. I want to pass this award along to Jill. She was in my ward, but not now, and she's my fabulous hair dresser. She's always been so kind to me and I miss seeing her! Speaking of which, I'm about due for another appointment. lol
Mimo gave me this Unconditional Friendship Award for being a true friend (something I'm still trying to live up to I might add). I'm going to pass this on to my good friend Kara because even though she's moved away, she still keeps in touch.
I really need to make that call
I don’t know why I keep forgetting, but we really need to switch auto insurance companies. Ours just hasn’t been doing what they should. For two people who have never had a ticket and never been in an accident, you would think they’d give us a great deal or give us anything for that matter. Anyway, I’ve been looking around trying to find the right company for us and there are so many to choose from it can make your head spin. But let me tell you about costulessins.com and what they have to offer. They’ve been in business for almost thirty years in the state of

Let's talk about the weather
My post today may seem ironic after this post I made a few weeks ago. But none the less, here we are, talking about the weather. So in my best announcer-weather-girl voice:
Today we have a slight amount of snow fall. The temperatures are down but not as cold as it was a few weeks ago. With the foot and a half of snow from the weekend, the roads are slick, cars will get stuck, and your back will ache from all the shoveling. But don't worry, be happy. It will melt by Spring.
Thankfully we haven't been stuck or in any accidents but a lot of people have. A nearby county had so much snow they declared the city in a state of emergency. While we're grateful to have the much needed moisture, you feel a little on edge when you get so much, so soon.
How's the weather where you are? :)

Let's go on vacation!
Do you know what fractional ownership is? I didn’t know myself but here’s the jist of it. It’s when you have leisure real estate and you want to sell more than a weeks worth of time for someone to stay there on vacation. With this you usually get more services and amenities. We used to have a timeshare but it was too much for us to pay and we ended up selling it. This sounds a bit more reasonable to me. Besides, who doesn’t need a vacation? :)
Pens, pens, pens
I’ve mentioned before how much my husband loves pens. Anytime he can get a free one, he will. I don’t mind getting a free pen myself every once in awhile and I see a lot of business’s that usually give away promotional pens. It’s nice when they put their name and phone number on the pen especially, then I don’t have to look it up! lol But I think we’re set on pens for the time being.

Monday Movie Review
Here's a list of the movies we've watched recently. Hopefully there's one you'd like to watch too!
"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix": Although it was far, far from the book, I did like this one. Richard and I liked it better than the last movie, true, but it's not one I would recommend young children watching. 3 quacks.
"Wives & Daughters": Molly's life becomes very eventful as her father decides to remarry. As others start confiding in her, people begin to misinterpret Molly's actions. The movie was somewhat interesting but I felt it didn't flow together. For being over six hours long, I thought I'd get more from it. Though I didn't care for it, I do have friends that loved it. I liked the last hour if that counts. lol 2 quacks.
"Knights of the South Bronx": Ted Danson plays the role of a business man who changes jobs and teaches inner city kids from the Bronx. He struggles in the beginning trying to get the fourth grade kids to listen to him but through the game of chess, they come together. Minus the children swearing off and on, we did like this movie. It was a good one time watch. 3 quacks.
"Counterstrike": Thomas and Vince, two brothers who don't get along, end up trying to save Mrs. President of the United States and other important delegates aboard the Queen Elizabeth II. The movie was pretty clean other than the violence of good guy vs. bad guy. Another one that I didn't think flowed together but a good one time watch. 3 quacks.
"Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman": I've finally finished all six seasons and I would highly recommend them to anyone who hasn't watched the show. It's easy to get reeled into the lives of the characters in Colorado Springs. Seasons 1-4 are my favorite, but 5 & 6 were good too. 5 quacks.
"Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman: The Movies": These are two, made for TV films, that came out awhile after the show ended. The first movie, "The Movie," Michaela and Sully's daughter is kidnapped and they have to go to Mexico to find her. This one kept me on the edge of my seat because I can't imagine losing a child. The second movie, "The Heart Within," deals with Colleen graduating from medical school and an illness with Michaela's mother. Both movies tie off some loose ends but I was still sad to have it done with. The only other downside was Joe Lando's hair. Sorry, I prefer his hair over the wig he wore in these two movies. lol 5 quacks.
"Batman Begins": Not one I will buy or watch again. Some parts were ok but most of the movie was too creepy and dark for me, so I'd rather not even talk about it. 1 quack.
"Transformers": I didn't think I would like this but I really did. There was one scene I didn't like at all and why they put it in there, I'll never know. But overall, the movie was really good. I know my husband wants to buy it, but we won't due to that one scene. 4 quacks.

Ducky's Email
I love how this ended, took me by surprise. I'm still giggling. :)
"The local news station was interviewing an 80-year-old lady because she had just gotten married -- for the fourth time.
The interviewer asked her questions about her life, about what it felt like to be marrying again at 80, and then about her new husband's occupation.
'He's a funeral director,' she answered
'Interesting,' the newsman thought.
He then asked her if she wouldn't mind telling him a little about her first three husbands and what they did for a living.
She paused for a few moments, needing time to reflect on all those years. After a short time, a smile came to her face and she answered proudly, explaining that she'd first married a banker when she was in her early 20's, then a circus ringmaster when in her 40's, later on a preacher when in her 60's, and now in her 80's, a funeral director.

There's always something
Almost everyday I see a new commercial with some product that is supposed to help women, especially during that time of month. I know there are things like progesterone creams that are supposed to help, although I've never tried them. It's hard to know what and if you should take something. Have you seen the commercial about a pill that makes your periods last only three short days? Now wouldn't that be nice! But at the same time, I worry about side effects you know? I guess it helps to have a good dr to talk about these things.
